"You're too emotional"
Have you ever been told you were ‘too sensitive’, ‘too emotional’, ‘too loud’, ‘too serious’, ‘too playful’, ‘too sexy’, or ‘too [fill in the blank]’? Have you ever been told you were TOO MUCH of yourself?
When did we ever start to believe that fully expressing yourself, with your voice, your creativity and your energy, was a BAD thing?
I can’t wrap my head around it, and yet, I’ve been there. As a child I was too loud, too sensitive and too, well, weird.
In my teenage years, it was a fine line between dressing ‘too’ over the top and ‘not unique enough’ in high school. Ugh.
And in my early twenties, before my true re-awakening began, my many and fluctuating emotions were too much for the people close to me, causing me to block my intuitive flow altogether.
Relatable?
I truly believe this ‘too much-ness’ doesn’t necessarily have a lot to do with the people who impose it on us, and everything with the internalised conditioning they carry about how a person (and specifically a woman) should navigate this world.
Bullshit.
This conditioning has (sub)consciously been designed over centuries to keep people boxed up and to silence women’s voices.
Our emotions are the gatekeepers to our intuition.
Which is exactly the reason we are pressured to numb and ignore them.
Our intuition goes directly against the norm of rationality and reason of our society. Intuition is free flowing, powerful and all-knowing – a.k.a. a direct threat to the ‘orderly’ capitalist framework of our patriarchal society.
So of course your emotions are going to be too much – because allowing them will result in the burning down of the box you were confined in.
My invitation to you?
Next time someone remarks on your ‘too much-ness’ or you find yourself quiet your voice or disregarding your bodily nudges, take a moment to reflect on the processes that lay beneath the surface of these actions.
Understand that flowing with your emotions is actually the biggest well of wisdom you can access – and it’s an incredibly rebellious act to do so in our world.
Everything you need is already residing within you – so be aware where your mind is making you fearful of taking up space with your sensitivity, emotions and energy. This isn’t your reality. Your Truth is an internal process – so set sacred boundaries around external input and radically decide to trust your Self!
