“when the obstacles pass, where do you want your new wings to take you?”
The last three days of the year are here – how are you feeling into it? Are you happy to close off this year, or is there a part of you hanging onto 2020?
There is no right or wrong way to approach the change of the year and in that light it is important to me to note that there can be an immense pressure to ‘get your life on track’ before the new year is welcomed in.
There can also be a narrative around how much everybody has achieved this year and the ‘goals we’ll smash in 2021’. * Shudders *
I think the only ‘right’ way to go about the turning of the wheel of the year is to check in with yourself and ask yourself what you need in this moment. Does it feel good to sit down and reflect for a bit? To tune in with your biggest dreams and desires and write them down? Or are you not feeling it right now?
Don’t forget we’ve only just approached Winter season – a time to turn inwards, reflect and find inner stillness. No smashing of goals included. 😉
That being said, it can be medicine for yourself to reflect on how much you’ve grown this year, what lessons came your way and how you navigated them and in what ways you can be proud of yourself (the biggest one we all share: making it through 2020!).
Since the Netherlands went into second lockdown two weeks ago, I’ve found myself in an incredibly reflective mood. So here are some musings on my 2020.
How I Embraced my Wild Woman in 2020
This year gave me the deepest shadow work and the most empowering decisions so far. A few of the lessons I learned this year by living intuitively:
- Disappointment is an opportunity to move towards self love. As the quote at the top of this letter points to, lessons appear to grow & expand. Disappointment along the way is just a signpost there were expectations that weren’t meant to be. To me, navigating this has allowed me to press pause, refocus and find softness towards myself. Releasing the pressure – always.
- Signs are everywhere – and learning to see and trust them can provide anchors. It’s amazing to learn to trust your inner fire, but there’s nothing wrong with wanting to receive some reassurance within the intangible of trusting intuition. When I first got back from Bali, I found feathers everywhere – and not just in expected places! I also kept seeing (and still do) 11:11, 22:22 and sometimes even the odd 4:44 (hello Universe, can I sleep please?). I love leaning into the Universe’s little nudges – it makes me feel held, seen and empowered.
- Slowing down in spiritual practices makes them more spiritual. I don’t think ‘slow spirituality’ is a thing (yet!) but I found myself at some point this year asking myself: ‘what’s the rush’? What’s the rush in my life to get to different places, to learn more, to know more, to do more – also in terms of rituals, self development books, spiritual podcast, retreats and workshops. Of course, this year has nudged us to slow down (understatement) but that doesn’t mean you actually HAD to right…. our minds can keep us busy with pressures regardless of lockdown.I have loved slowing down and picking only a few practices to dive deeper into. It provides more space for the intuitive to come through and to make something truly my own. This is one I’m definitely taking into 2021 with me. Rush is a manmade concept and you get to choose whether you want to lean into it or not.
- Becoming the fire will provide warmth – but will also destroy everything in the way. Annoyingly, we can’t empower ourselves from within without burning ourselves down too. It’s that sacred process of Life & Rebirth, which is so closely linked to the energy of Wild Woman. Things simply need to be let go of in order to create space for newly uncovered parts. The process of empowerment and spiritual feminism can feel so incredibly expansive, but also so incredibly hard. It’s no either/or, so invite in the full spectrum of feelings and experiences along the journey, because it is truly the only way.
